New Construction
If you are building or renovating a house in Atikokan and require a new service (up to 200 amps), you must contact Atikokan Hydro to receive approval of the service or change. The location of the Customer’s service entrance equipment is subject to the approval of Atikokan Hydro and the Electrical Safety Authority.
1. Make appointment to meet with Atikokan Hydro Staff
You will need to meet with operations to discuss where your service wires and hydro meter should be located. Call the office at (807)597-6600 during business hours.
2. Atikokan Hydro will complete an Offer to Connect indicating your costs (if any) to install your new service.
3. Make Payment, if required.

A Basic Connection is defined as the actual or equivalent cost to supply and install overhead distribution transformer capacity and up to 30 meters (Residential) or 30 meters (General Service) of overhead service conductor. Residential class Customers receive this Basic Connection without charge.
Payment can be made at the office by cash, interac or cheque during regular business hours. Contact the office (807) 597-6600 for other arrangements if necessary.
4. Setup an Atikokan Hydro Account

5. All work must meet Atikokan Hydro’s Condition of Service.
The customer shall notify Atikokan Hydro when the service trench is ready for inspection.
6. Contact ESA to Obtain a Permit
The individual wiring must contact the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) to obtain a wiring permit. There is a fee. ESA 1-877-372-7233
7. ESA Inspection
When the electrical wiring is complete, contact the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) to arrange for inspection. Once approved by the inspector, ESA will issue a Connection Authorization.
8. Connecting the Service
Once Atikokan Hydro receives the Connection Authorization from the ESA we will connect your new service within 5 working days.
